Nero has for a long time now been one of the most talked about waffle joints in downtown Vancouver, and it’s also one of the busiest. Many new waffle restaurants are popping up all over the city, but Nero is still managing to win despite its size disadvantage. It just shows that nothing beats a good quality waffle!
Just off the corner of Robson and Bidwell, Nero is tucked between two restaurants that are easily double their size but half as popular. They focus on making authentic sweet and savoury waffles, as well as quality fresh espressos. We indulged in their Fruity waffle and their Biscuit Waffle. Both were soft and warm waffles smothered in delicious toppings. Also their hot chocolate is one of the best I’ve personally ever tried. The chocolate is rich Belgian chocolate and you can really taste the flavour through it. The only issue was that the restaurant was still so busy on a weekday night and there was windchill outside, but we still had to sit and eat at the tables on the outside.
Quality – 5 of 5 – Hot and toasty, yet soft and chewy, a perfect waffle
Ingenuity – 4.5 of 5 – Nailed the sweet, and the savoury, but they could take it a step further
Atmosphere – 4 of 5 – Busy, busy busy! They need a bigger place.
Service – 5 of 5 – Great service. Waffles made quickly
Value – 4 of 5 – still under $10, but is 9.5 really necessary for a waffle? You be the judge.
Overall – 4.4 of 5
