Big changes are coming down the line for One’s or Two’s. Because of this, I’ve had to move to a self-hosted site so that I’ll be able to deliver great new content and features that we currently cannot support! The new site should be operational by early next week. I appreciate your support in following be at this time. I am really excited to see what you think when you see some of the changes!
Dine Out Vancouver, presented by Tourism Vancouver, is back again for another fantastic year of culinary adventure! Between Jan 17 – Feb 2, choose from hundreds of restaurants in the city and create your own personalized dining experiences. This year they are partnered with American Express, and if you hold an AMEX card, you get exclusive access to see the participating restaurant list 3 days earlier than everyone else. For everyone else, a list of all the restaurants in the city that are a part of Dine Out comes out Monday, Jan 6th. Each restaurant will offer a 3 course meal either in the $18, $28, or $38 price point. This allows Vancouverites of all demographics to have the chance to experience a new or a favourite restaurant in the city no matter the budget. And for those of you from out of town, there will be exclusive hotel rates and packages offered for the $78, $108 and $138 range. Continue reading
Based on the feedback I’ve received in the last couple of months since One’s or Two’s launched, we’ve gone through a few changes. After a lot of careful thought and consideration, I have updated One’s or Two’s with a new look that will serve for better functionality, viewing experience and overall professionalism. Please post comments on the site or on the Facebook page of what you think. We have many more food reviews and recipes to share with you for the new year so keep following! Thanks!
My personalized business cards arrived today! I ordered them through Jukeboxprint.com. They specialize in custom designed business cards and are an online store that have printing factories in Vancouver in Gastown and in London Ontario. I chose them specifically because they offer a really broad range of cards styles and materials for whatever your budget may be. I was able to order 1000 double sided cards with a special UV coating to accent certain areas on the card or to add another layer of design. It took a couple of weeks to arrive, but even though I had to resubmit a few times, they were still able to meet the original date they had promised. Their platform is also a great experience too! All you do is follow their card file guidelines, and either submit your own file, or create a card right on the website with their ultra user-friendly tool. I personally did my cards from scratch in Adobe Illustrator. It’s a pretty advanced tool, but I’m familiar with the program so it wasn’t as bad. They also offer design support if you need help creating them, but for a price. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re in the market for some new business cards. Thanks Jukeboxprint.com! I was driving downtown one day through Hastings St when I spotted a place called Gourmet Warehouse. I asked Jenny to look it up on Google and see what this was. We found out they sold kitchen supplies, so we decided to make a quick stop to check it out. Turns out, this was one of the best decisions I’ve made! This place is a real hidden gem to the general public, but I’m sure it’s probably quite well known in the culinary world in Vancouver. It’s a large warehouse building just off the corner of Clark and Hastings. There’s street parking in the front and some in the back alley as well. Continue reading
So this is a little overdue. I decided a couple of weeks ago that my food blogging just wasn’t going to get where it needs to be with the equipment that I owned. With food photography, or other macro photography in general, lighting is so important. I really wanted to showcase the ingredients that I’ve been using, as well as the cooking that goes along with it. I’m fairly new to the whole lighting side of photography, so I’m not going to go on trying to pretend like I know everything about it, because I DON’T! Continue reading

Now you’re all wondering why this blog is called One’s or Two’s. I have long been cooking for myself or just for Jenny and I. Every time I go shopping, I am forced to buy enough ingredients to make my dishes. But the problem is, for people like me, how do we cook delicious and healthy home cooked meals, when we end up having to throw out half of the stuff we buy. This blog will not only be a log of my journeys tasting amazing food around the world, but also I will try to find the most efficient ways to cook for less money, with less waste! I will also be following in the near future with cooking videos showing the basic culinary skills you will need to be confident cooking incredible food in your own home!
I’m not going to go into a long story here and say a lot about Graville Island. Everyone in Vancouver knows what it is, where it is, and what they have there. I just wanted to take a couple of shots on this nice day and show them off here. I really like going to the market there to buy my ingredients fresh. They have so much more selection than the regular supermarkets. I can get really creative with my cooking when I shop here. I used to go to the South China Seas Trading Co. to buy my spices. But I’ve found these days that a lot of the spices I need can easily be bought at Save-On Foods or Superstore in the ethnic food isle. The same spices if bought here or by any North American company, will charge you 4 or 5 times more the price for a much smaller amount. Continue reading
