Nero has for a long time now been one of the most talked about waffle joints in downtown Vancouver, and it’s also one of the busiest. Many new waffle restaurants are popping up all over the city, but Nero is still managing to win despite its size disadvantage. It just shows that nothing beats a good quality waffle! Continue reading
Miura Waffle + Milk Bar recently re-opened last month moving from Davie st Downtown to Mount Pleasant on Cambie and Broadway. They are a very unique Japanese waffle bar that has been featured in Food Network’s popular series “You Gotta Eat Here”. Chef and owner Dennis Miura created this menu based on many aspects of his life in Vancouver. Continue reading
Patisserie Lebeau is an authentic Belgium waffle shop and café that sits unassumingly on west 2nd and Burrard, tucked right in between some of Vancouver’s most exotic car dealerships. I in fact learned of this little shop whilst working at Weissach Motors in 2008. I had a short summer job there as a lot boy and we went there many days of the week for their savoury Brussels waffles. Continue reading
Dim Sum at Dai Tung on Kingsway has been a place that I can return to year after year and never be disappointed. Because I don’t live in that area, and there are other places for dim sum closer to me, I rarely have the opportunity nowadays to go for some delicious authentic dim sum. The biggest reason I think that I haven’t been coming to Dai Tung for quite a while is due to the cost. There is one particular dim sum restaurant (that I won’t name in this post) that has particularly good dim sum at an amazing price. Although Dai Tung is not the most expensive dim sums I’ve had, it is still quite pricey for what you get. Continue reading
La Taqueria is an authentic Mexican taco shop that has locations in the heart of downtown Vancouver and just outside of downtown. We visited the Cambie & Broadway location on a busy Monday morning just before the lunch rush came in. I’ve been here a couple of times in the past and it always delivers when you’re craving some good Mexican food. They offer traditional Mexican street taco recipes, also referred to as pinche tacos. They use sustainable, local and organic products in their menu. I haven’t been to the Gastown location yet but I have heard great things about it. The Cambie spot is always packed though since it’s in such a busy intersection, with the Canada Line station kiddy corner to it, this place gets tons of foot traffic. Continue reading
This chocolate factory might be one of the city’s best kept secrets. It’s tucked away on industrial ave in an unassuming warehouse building, far away from anywhere you’d expect to come for desserts. If you ever imagined going to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, this is as close as it gets!
Beta5 Chocolates has one of most intriguing names that actually has a very cool meaning behind it. Apparently, they call it Beta5 because the form-5 beta crystal is the most stable form of cocoa butter crystallization, formed through the controlled melting, and subsequent cooling of liquid chocolate, giving their chocolates a distinctive shine and crisp snap. (Beta5 Chocolates, 2013) Continue reading
Today I took Jenny to Meat & Bread for our third time. This specialty restaurant is only open during lunch hours, but is always packed! The first two times we came here we had excellent experiences, and this time was no different. Their sandwiches are just consistently good everyday of the week. They keep the menu simple, but they are amazing at what they do make, which keeps people coming back for more. There’s just something about their concept that is so unique as well. I know of no other places like this where you can go for lunch and have a gourmet sandwich, served so simply, and taste this delicious. On their menu each day, there is only 3 or 4 sandwiches to choose from, 1 soup and 1 salad. Each time I have visited, I have been able to try something new as they switch up the specials daily. This is the second time we’ve come to Faubourg, a popular French cafe that really offers a truly Parisian experience! They have savoury gourmet items, sophisticated desserts, coffees and teas.
We went to pick up Hershey, Jenny’s Pappion from Pawsh Dog Spa in Yaletown. He was a little overdue and this place really has incredible service for a very good price! We walked up with our newly groomed dog towards the Vancouver Art Gallery. Nestled on the corner of Hornby & Robson, this cafe sits right beside Cafe Artigiano, another popular downtown coffee spot.
