Miura Waffle + Milk Bar recently re-opened last month moving from Davie st Downtown to Mount Pleasant on Cambie and Broadway. They are a very unique Japanese waffle bar that has been featured in Food Network’s popular series “You Gotta Eat Here”. Patisserie Lebeau is an authentic Belgium waffle shop and café that sits unassumingly on west 2nd and Burrard, tucked right in between some of Vancouver’s most exotic car dealerships. I in fact learned of this little shop whilst working at Weissach Motors in 2008. I had a short summer job there as a lot boy and we went there many days of the week for their savoury Brussels waffles. Continue reading
Today I took Jenny to Meat & Bread for our third time. This specialty restaurant is only open during lunch hours, but is always packed! The first two times we came here we had excellent experiences, and this time was no different. Their sandwiches are just consistently good everyday of the week. They keep the menu simple, but they are amazing at what they do make, which keeps people coming back for more. There’s just something about their concept that is so unique as well. I know of no other places like this where you can go for lunch and have a gourmet sandwich, served so simply, and taste this delicious. On their menu each day, there is only 3 or 4 sandwiches to choose from, 1 soup and 1 salad. Each time I have visited, I have been able to try something new as they switch up the specials daily. This will be my first restaurant review on here. I will do my best to paint an accurate picture of what each place we visit is like. And also rate them on their food quality, ingenuity, ambiance, service and value.
Jenny surprised me today for my birthday by taking me to YEW @ the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver for lunch. This was my first time visiting this upscale dining room. I have to say, I was very surprised at my first glance into this West Coast restaurant. It is enormous inside, and probably has one of the highest ceilings for a restaurant in all of Vancouver, especially for a place that only offers one floor of dining space. The entire space is beautifully decorated and offers a very contemporary design and feel. I was immediately reminded of Coast on Alberni St, which has a similar design, being a very open concept kitchen and bar area. But YEW is very well lit in the day with lots of natural light pouring in. During lunch, it gets very busy as most business people in the district come down for a bite. This also adds to the overall “professional” and upscale feeling of the space. Continue reading
