Sushi Gen – Best Seared Tuna Belly in Town!

My friends and I were invited to go try Sushi Gen, a recently opened sushi restaurant that is apparently becoming very famous for their seared nigiri sushi. This restaurant is almost hidden right beside Red Robin on the corner of Cameron st just off North Rd in Coquitlam/Burnaby. The restaurant is owned and operated by the Lee family. They are a friendly and welcoming Korean family where the father, Mr. Lee, is the head chef and creates all the dishes, his wife runs the front of house operations, and their son, Andrew, is the General Manager.  Continue reading

The Oakwood Canadian Bistro – Bringing A New Twist To Vancouver Brunch

Brunch has become such a competitive aspect of dining out in Vancouver in the last couple of years. There are far too many places trying to open up earlier to bring in that early morning crowd while staying fresh and creative with their menus. It used to be so much easier to choose where to go, simply because the ‘meal’ itself would almost always follow the same basic brunch guidelines. But now there is so much choice and every restaurant in town wants to do something different, while not losing the ‘brunch’ feel. The Oakwood stands out the most amongst all of the restaurants I have had the pleasure to experience in the past year of dining.

Tsuki – Sushi Bar

We decided to go for a double date a fairly new sushi restaurant called Tsuki near Stadium skytrain just on Abbott and Pender. We made reservations for 7pm on a Thursday night, arrived on time, and were seated promptly after arriving. The restaurant itself is very clean and fresh looking, it has high ceilings and the space is very opened up. They had some Christmas decorations though that I found were a little strange. There was also some scattered decorations and plants along the walls in no apparent pattern. I’ve seen a few japanese restaurants have similar designs. Not quite sure what they were going for.
